Hardscaping can be a fall project, here's why

Often I hear about a great backyard design and landscaping idea that never got started. Some of the reasons are just not knowing wen to start, or procrastinating in the spring and summer until the season passes by and you loose interest "till next year". Many people think that landscaping is a spring and summer project. Below are 3 reasons to begin working on your backyard hardscape or Landscape project in the fall.

Plants and Flowers

Dont be fooled by the idea that planting in the spring will yield you a beautiful landscape in spring and summer. The risk of bad weather preventing the planting and delaying the growing time is real. Many homeowners are disappointed when they find out that planting in the spring means waiting till next year to enjoy the fruits of your labor. Instead, avoid the risk by planting your flowers and buds in the fall, and by spring the flowers will be ready to bloom. This is an advantage as you won’t have to worry about the intense summer heat being too much for the growing flowers, and you wasting your hard earned money on wilted results. If you have questions about how or what to plant in the autumn, ask Glenn Stover for help, advice, or assistance.

Retaining walls and Masonry

Putting down stone or brickwork is labor-intensive and and a quality cur b appeal may require the expertise of hardscape professionals. Waiting till spring might put you on a waiting list as project demands and work planning for hardscape contractors fill quickly in the spring and often work pipelines extend months ahead. Laying down stone in the fall is a great move, Contractors are finishing the season of spring and summer projects, and soil is more malleable you'll get a quicker response and the weather will provide more efficiency for the contractor in getting the work done and when spring arrives again you'll be set. Also, leveling and evening the ground or dirt will be an easier task, as the ground will maintain its moisture, making the soil malleable and easy to manipulate. Putting down stonework in the fall is a great example of working smarter, not harder.

Patio's and Lighting

Dont be fooled by the sun! Having the perfect patio and lighting scene can make a huge difference in the outdoor experience of enjoying your back yard. Gauging what color, hue, and saturation of light can be tricky for even experienced home renovators; however, don’t get caught making the job more difficult. Trying to figure out what lighting will work best is nearly impossible if the sun is still out. The color of the lights will look dramatically different every time the sun sets lower in the sky, and during the height of summer, that can be well into the evening. In the fall, the sun will set much earlier, and you can find what lighting works best early in the night. Make sure the sun is completely set before working on the lighting, and try several different options, colors, and bulbs before deciding on your final choice.
